Monopoly is one of the most famous table games that is known around the world. If you’ve ever played or seen a Monopoly game, you probably know who Mr. Monopoly is. You maybe know who Mr. Monopoly is but you don’t have idea who Alec Monopoly is. Honestly, nobody knows the identity of Alec Monopoly, and only thing that we know about him is that he’s famous graffiti artist that spays his graffiti all over the New York.Alec Monopoly got his name due to graffiti that have appeared all over the New York featuring Mr. Monopoly. Thanks to Alec Monopoly, you can see his posters and graffiti on walls all over the New York and other cities as well. Apparently, Alec is trying to be satirical with his graffiti, and although he has a point, many people are not pleased with them. One of those people are the police officers of New York Police Department that are searching for Alec Monopoly.Anyhow, Alec creates amazing art, so make sure that you don’t miss it.

LOS ANGELES—Adult superstar Kylie Ireland has been very busy of late—not only working 16 hours a day as head of production for Star Wars XXX, but also, incredibly, preparing for her first art show. Ireland, who makes her art under the name DeeKay, is being hailed as one of the top street artists in Los Angeles, and starting tomorrow her work will be included in an exhibition curated by MelroseandFairfax at the Maximillian Gallery, located in the Sunset Marquis Hotel in West Hollywood.
The show, called “What Graffiti is to New York – Street Art is to Los Angeles,” will run May 29-June 30. In addition to DeeKay, featured artists include Alec Monopoly, Free Humanity, SmogCity, Bankrupt Slut, Bod Bod, 2wenty, Snyder, Gregory Siff, KH no. 7, Smear, Desire Obtain Cherish, CYRCLE.& DD$, Leba and Homo Riot.
“It is going to be epic,” promises an announcement posted to the Sunset Marquis website by MelroseandFairfax. “This is the show that will define the genre and solidify LA’s place in the street art scene to the rest of the world. Street art in LA is blowing up. From Banksy’s latest visit, to the MOCA exhibition, and on every street corner and rooftop in between, the force of this movement is undeniable.
“This show has the biggest name street artists and brightest stories in the game,” the announcement continues, “and it is being held at arguably the most upscale gallery to ever host a pure street art show (that is, with real street artists who are out on the streets and not artists who dabble with murals on walls). And in 10 years this will be the show, and the artists, that the history books (and blogs) will refer to as making the jump from street to gallery, and defining the street art genre.”
Ireland, whose career in adult entertainment began in 1994 and includes appearances in over 475 movies, has expressed her interest in having “as many familiar faces of friends and family as I can” attend the opening celebration of the show, which takes place Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at the gallery.
“I am SO SO excited and hope you can all either join me at the opening reception or at least make it down to the gallery before the 30th June,” she wrote on her blog.

Alec Monopoly came by and hooked us up with some tagged stickers.

We were super impressed hanging with Alec. We talk with a lot of people about the scene, but we really noticed the keen eye that Alec has for art. He made some particularly poignant comments, and talked about art on a different level than most people we chat with.

Alec was one of the blog’s early favorite artists, and we have enjoyed watching his career take off like a rocket over the past year. And this might sound like an overstatement, but it is not. Go ahead and think we are crazy now but remember you heard it here first–Alec is going to be one of the biggest household name artists of this generation. Warhol big.
The dude is talented. And tenacious. And hungry. And he has contacts in the art world that most could only dream of.

Who is Alec Monopoly?

Odds are if you have been around Los Angeles, you’ve seen his work. Among the entertainment capital’s omnipresent billboards and bus ads for the latest studio mush, little deposits of his artwork spring out of the urban marketplace like willful foliage to wink at you on your commute. Some call it vandalism, some are incapable of even seeing it, and some will pay hundreds for an original.

Digable Planets’ emcee Butterfly once declared, “The city’s a museum with its posters and graffiti.” While the urban gallery of Los Angeles exhibits colorful murals and tagging scrawled in the city’s margins, there is a subculture that lurks in the dead of night to adorn utility boxes, street signs, dumpsters, and unclaimed walls with paint, posters and paste, in the pursuit of what is simply known as “street art.”

Less than a year ago, the recognizable Monopoly Man figure began appearing around town plastered against traffic light boxes, lampposts, and building tops. The tuxedoed icon would be recognizable with his pocket watch and top hat, but now he was spinning turntables, or needing health care. In an era of billion dollar bailouts for banks that already own the country and moguls decrying regulation as un-American, the re-contextualization of the childhood symbol of success and wealth almost needed no explanation.

Except, maybe an explanation for who the hell was putting all these imaginative renditions of the Monopoly Man all over LA, from the ocean to downtown, from West Hollywood to the canyons. And why.

After patience and persistence, the elusive Alec Monopoly granted me an interview. Because others might technically deem his artwork a destruction of property or some such notion, he asked that his likeliness be kept hidden, and that he would come to me. The interview we filmed is below, along with a slide show of some of Alec Monopoly pieces around Los Angeles.
